Statement by MPP Lisa MacLeod

Queen’s Park, ON – This morning MPP for Nepean – Carleton, Lisa MacLeod, released the following statement:

“Today marks the resumption of the Ontario Legislature, an institution which I have proudly served since 2006.

“After having been re-elected for a fourth time this past June and recently ending a leadership run for the Ontario PC Party, I want the constituents of Nepean – Carleton to know I intend to honour my commitment to complete this four year mandate and help Christine Elliott form a Progressive Conservative government in 2018.

“While I appreciate the overwhelming, outpouring of encouragement from community leaders and my constituents in Nepean to consider a run for federal Parliament, early last week Joe and I ruled that out as a realistic option for us. We have been in constant campaign mode for close to five years. Our nine-year-old daughter Victoria deserves a break from door knocking, phone calls and late night campaign meetings.

“As Member of Provincial Parliament for Nepean – Carleton and Ontario PC Treasury Board Critic, I will continue to advocate for choice in childcare, sensible energy policy and a government we can afford. I’m looking forward to a few local projects, too, that can improve and enhance the lives of those I represent.

“Thank you to all of those in Nepean and in the rest of Ottawa who see me as a natural successor to John Baird. Your belief in me is extremely humbling.”
